The Guilford College Athletic Department has announced Marty Kelly as the interim head men's lacrosse coach in November 2023.
In his most recent position, Kelly has been the assistant head men's lacrosse coach at Savannah College of Art & Design. Prior to joining the staff in Georgia, Kelly spent 21 years at Roger Williams as both an assistant coach and the head coach.
Kelly ended his tenure at Roger Williams as the winningest coach in program history, with an overall record of 190-132-1. Four of his teams appeared in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship Game and three were selected to participate in the ECAC Division III New England Tournament.
In his time as head coach at Roger Williams, Kelly coached three USILA All-Americans, six USILA Academic All-Americans, 132 All-CCC players, four CCC Senior Scholar-Athletes of the Year, one CCC Short-Stick Specialist of the Year, eight All-New England honorees, six ECAC All-Star selections, and one ECAC Rookie of the Year. In addition, 15 of his players were selected to participate in the NEILA East/West Senior All-Star Game and two played in the national USILA Division III North-South Senior All-Star Game. Kelly was also a two-time CCC Coach of the Year, earning the honor after the 2002 and 2007 seasons.
A native of South Salem, New York, Kelly is a 1988 graduate of John Jay High School. Kelly went on to receive a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Nazareth College in 1992 and later earned an M.S. degree in Sports Administration from Georgia State University in 1998.
During Kelly's playing days, he was a two-time High School All-American at John Jay High School (NY) before going on to serve as a captain for Nazareth College's first National Championship team in 1992. Kelly was selected NCAA Division III All-America after the 1990, 1991 and 1992 seasons and was chosen as the 1992 recipient of the Lt. Col. J.I. (Jack) Turnbull Award that is given annually to the Outstanding Attackman in Division III. Kelly still ranks among the top all-time leaders in goals scored, assists and total points at Nazareth. Kelly was inducted into the Nazareth College Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998, the US Lacrosse Hudson Valley Chapter Hall of Fame in 2002 and the John Jay High School Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.
